You have most likely received the Houston Bar 2010 Judicial Preference Poll asking for your
input on the upcoming Judicial races. As you may be aware, I am running for Judge of the
157th Civil District Court. I appreciate you taking the time to review my credentials and
campaign platform. It is my hope that you find this information helpful as you prepare
your poll response. Thank you very much for your consideration. I ask for your "preference"
and your vote! Your reply is due by 5:00pm on September 17 , 2010. Vote today!

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe that lawyers need a better opportunity for their cases to be heard in a fair and unbiased manner. Open ears, even judicial temperament, and respect for the rule of law are the qualities and values which I intend to offer the bench.
I am running to bring back the balance that is needed in our civil jurisprudence system. Plaintiffs must have an open forum to present the facts of their case from the initial filing, to discovery, and closing argument. Defendants deserve a fair, level playing field to adequately defend themselves and refute the facts alleged against them in each case. I will deliver justice by applying the rule of law fairly to all the litigants who come before the court seeking redress and resolution.

To date, I have received the endorsement from fellow members of the Bar as well as a diverse group of organizations including the: Pasadena Bar Association, the Mexican American Bar Association, The Houston Chronicle,The Jewish Herald Voice, the Afro-American Sheriffs' Deputy League, and numerous other professional groups and civic associations.

Houston Chronicle Endorses Shawn Thierry for Judge

The Chronicle encourages a vote for these well-qualified candidates for Harris County civil court benches in the Democratic primary, 157th Civil District Court: Shawn Thierry, a graduate of Howard University and Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law, has been a licensed attorney for 13 years. She has worked at large firms and as a solo practitioner and says she would bring to the bench experience practicing on both the plaintiff and defense sides
(Houston Chronicle, 2010).
"This is an exciting time for Harris County voters because for over a decade all of the judges serving on this bench received their positions through gubernatorial appointments. This year, the citizens of Harris County will have an opportunity to participate in the democratic process for the 157th Civil District court, by electing the candidate of their choice," remarks Shawn Thierry.
Ms. Thierry is a graduate of Howard University and received her juris doctorate degree from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law. Her professional associations include the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Houston Trial Lawyers Association, Houston Bar Association and American Association for Justice.

Outside of the courtroom, she enjoys serving as Chair of the Advisory Board and as Chair of the Annual Fund for Pro-Vision School for Boys. She has mentored girls at Westbury High School, and has served on the Executive Committee of the local chapter of the Howard University Alumni Association.
